He is the founder and first CEO of the music recognition app Shazam. Shazam became a pioneering application in consumer artificial intelligence (AI) by enabling users to identify music playing around them. Founded in 2000, Shazam was acquired by Apple in 2018 for $400 million.
After Shazam, Barton became one of the founding members of the Android Partnerships team at Google and managed mobile operator partnerships at Dropbox. He also holds 12 patents, one of which is used in the Google search algorithm.
