Costa Rican politician, technology and sustainable development leader José María Figueres Olsen served as President of Costa Rica from 1994 to 1998. During his tenure, he pioneered his country’s digital transformation through reforms in technology, education, telecommunications, and public modernization.

Figueres later served as CEO of the World Economic Forum, leading the development of partnerships between governments, international organizations, and the private sector. He has also taken active roles in international initiatives focused on sustainable development, climate technology, digital transformation, and global governance.
