Sugata Mitra
Professor of Educational Techbology
About
He is an Indian computer scientist and education theorist. He is known for the “Hole in the Wall” experiment he launched in 1999. In this experiment, he placed computers in walls in impoverished areas of India to observe how children could learn on their own. These studies showed that children could learn without guidance.
Education
Based on these experiences, Mitra developed the concept of Self-Organized Learning Environments (SOLE). In 2013, he launched the School in the Cloud project with the TED Prize. This project created a learning environment that encourages children to learn independently via the internet.
